Background

Future generation logic and memory devices such as complementary field effect transistors (CFET) and 4F2 DRAM or 3DDRAM are moving to complex 3D integration schemes to boost performance and keep up with density scaling trends. That sets unprecedented challenges for novel material and thin film process development. Atomically controlled deposition processes in complex 3D structures: highly conformal depositions of multi-compound materials with homogeneous properties in vertical and lateral cavities, low thermal budget processes, processes with precise interface control and uniformity for both dielectric and metallic films, sustainable materials and processes. In this context, the Materials-Interfaces-Deposition-Analysis (MIDA) department at imec is looking for an R&D team lead with a strong technical background in deposition and integration in CMOS and/or memory device technology to guide a group of talented engineers and researchers working on thin film development for future applications such as CFET, 3DDRAM and/or other emerging logic or memory technologies.

What you will do

You will be leading an R&D team within the Materials-Interfaces-Deposition-Analysis (MIDA) department. The MIDA department is responsible for the research and development of novel thin films and thin film processes in imec’s 300 mm pilot line using state-of-the-art deposition and characterization equipment. The team you manage works application and project oriented and covers a broad variety of deposition techniques such as Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) for CMOS and/or Memory integration. As a team lead, you will have the opportunity to actively participate in the development for selected projects. As such, technical knowledge in deposition and integration is key. You are expected to facilitate the team’s activities and allocate resources to support projects in imec’s research programs and bilaterals. As a team lead you will need to define priorities, set individual and team objectives and goals, and follow-up on technical challenges and solutions for the applications that your team is covering. You will need to build up a close relationship with various stakeholders, internal, but also external customers, equipment and material suppliers, to stay up to date with novel advances in deposition technology and do an early assessment of their potential for the advanced device fabrication. As an R&D team lead you will need to build up and guide close interactions with imec’s different groups and departments to come up with thin film solutions.

Who you are

  • You have a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or Nanotechnology or equivalent through experience. 
  • You have more than 5 years of relevant working experience in the semiconductor industry or in a larger research facility.   
  • You have team leadership skills and have proven experience in leading a small to medium size team. 
  • You have hands-on experience in operating deposition tools and thin film process development. 
  • You have good knowledge of several deposition techniques such as (PE)ALD, (PE)CVD, PVD. 
  • You are a real team player and can easily integrate into an international team of professionals. 
  • You have strong organizational skills and show flexibility to change between different projects according to priorities. 
  • You like taking initiative, you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
  • You have excellent English communication and reporting skills.
