Student project: Towards an Ultra-Efficient Hardware AI accelerator: Boosting Performance per Watt and area

Squeezing every joule and every micron for AI performance, within a novel architecture.
What you will do
- Review and understand the concepts and requirements of the current AI accelerator architecture (3wks)
- Review the state-of-the-art architectures to find solutions for increasing the efficiency of the architecture (3wks)
- Workload development (3wks)
- Model the enhancements and prove the efficiency increase (6wks)
- Integrate the model into the system architecture (7wks)
- Investigate the bottlenecks, especially memory, interconnect and compute, and mitigate the proposed architecture (7wks)
- Prepare a demonstration of the proposed System Architecture (5wks)
- Prepare the documentation, including a comprehensive report and presentation (5wks)
Total time: 9 months (39 weeks)

Who you are
-
You are a Master's student with a background in Computer engineering, electrical engineering or Computer Science and a strong interest in developing novel AI architectures.
- You possess SystemC modelling skills and a good understanding of Hardware architectures.
- You possess programming skills in Python, particularly with AI libraries such as PyTorch.
- You are available for a 9-month period, including time for thesis writing.
- You have the legal right to undertake an internship or thesis in the Netherlands.
- Hands-on experience with sensors and development demonstrations is preferred (but not required).
- You are a self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- You are eager to learn, explore, and develop novel AI algorithms and architectures.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- You possess strong analytical skills.
