Job Title: Staff Accountant 

 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting operations for both nonprofit and for-profit entities in the U.S. This role is essential in supporting internal financial reporting, payroll processing, expense oversight, and general ledger maintenance. You will collaborate across departments and contribute to a streamlined, compliant, and accurate financial function. This is a hybrid position with a 3 days per week in office work schedule.

What You Will Do 

In this role, you will: 

  • Manage daily accounting operations including: 

  • Accounts payable and purchase order (PO) oversight 

  • Payroll processing and compliance 

  • Employee expense reimbursement reviews 

  • Record and post journal entries and general ledger transactions 

  • Support the month-end close process: 

  • Prepare and post accruals, deferrals, and other journal entries 

  • Reconcile benefit and payroll-related accounts 

  • Code and review project expenses 

  • Track and approve project time entries 

  • Record fixed asset activity (purchases, disposals, depreciation) 

  • Assist in preparing internal financial reports 

  • Serve as a liaison during internal and external audits 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and automation of accounting processes 

  • Ensure accurate application of GAAP to all accounting activities

Who You Are 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 

  • Experience: 1–2 years of professional accounting experience; prior payroll experience is preferred 

  • Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP 

  • Proficient in journal entries, account reconciliations, and payroll compliance 

  • Experience with expense management and time tracking systems 

  • Comfort working with both nonprofit and for-profit entities 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines 

  • Excellent communicator 

  • Ability to work well in teams, especially across multiple time zones 

  • High attention to detail 

  • Mid- to high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel 

  • Experience with the following platforms a plus:  QuickBooks Online, SAP, Rippling, Ramp
