Automation and Equipment Integration Engineer (temporary assignment)
As Automation and Equipment Integration Engineer, you’ll work closely with the SmartFab team, Tool Owners and external partners to integrate new equipment, realize automation and support stable automation once systems are in production. In this role, you’ll work closely with the SmartFab team, Tool Owners and external partners to integrate new equipment, realize automation and support stable automation once systems are in production. You’ll be part of an environment where iterations move quickly, and where your work directly enables manufacturing performance.
Deliver equipment integration in project mode: analysis, configuration, testing and onboarding into our automation landscape.
Support and troubleshoot equipment automation in daily operations once tools are live.
Collaborate with Tool Owners, Manufacturing IT and vendors to diagnose and resolve interface issues.
Contribute to continuous improvements of our integration methods, tooling and documentation.
Required knowledge and skills
- Must have:
- Strong understanding of semiconductor factory automation and equipment integration.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience integrating equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as MQTT, RS-232, HSMS and TCP/IP.
- Ability to work with structured equipment interfaces (states, modules, standardized commands, events).
- Solid English skills – spoken and written.
- Eligible to work permanently in Belgium.
- What we consider a plus (not mandatory):
- Solid understanding of advanced, automated manufacturing production processes, particularly in semiconductors.
- Knowledge of broader automation architectures (OPC or similar, station controllers and message bus).
- Experience with source control tools (preferably Git) • Experience with unit testing frameworks.
- Familiar with agile software development methodologies Desired Skills and Experience.
- IoT - SEMI equipment standards e.g. SECS/GEM –Java – CI/CD.
