Team Leader for Calibration Products Engineering

Research & development - Leuven | Just now

As a world-leading R&D and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, IMEC brings together brilliant minds from all over the world to shape the future of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, life sciences, and sustainable energy. IMEC also leverages its state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication infrastructure to transform its R&D capabilities to fabricate advanced product wafers for its customers.

Team Leader for Calibration Products Engineering

About the Role

IMEC's unique position, infrastructure and R&D capabilities enable it to produce calibration wafer products for advanced semiconductor process and tool calibration. Customers use these wafers to maintain the high performance required from semiconductor processes and tools in fabrication facilities worldwide.

We are looking for a dynamic Team Leader to lead a team of expert engineers responsible for the technical performance and quality of these product wafers. You will work with customers and IMEC experts to develop effective technical solutions using IMEC’s advanced semiconductor fabrication capabilities. Together with the team, you will own a multi-customer portfolio of calibration wafer products and lead New Product Introduction activities for next-generation products.

In this technical leadership role, your expertise and competence will provide clear technical direction to the team. You will also support team members in reaching their technical potential, leveraging advanced R&D capabilities effectively.

What you will do

  • Product Portfolio Ownership: Lead the team in maintaining and optimising process integration flows for imec's portfolio of low-volume wafer products
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Ensure that critical customer requirements for new calibration wafer products are clearly defined. Plan and execute engineering evaluations to confirm imec's ability to meet these requirements consistently.
  • Quality and Industrialisation: Maintain a strong focus on the quality of products delivered to customers. Ensure products are industrialised using FMEA methods to prevent quality incidents.
  • Leadership: Lead the engineering team in professional collaboration with customers and imec R&D experts in Lithography, Etch, Thin Films, CMP and Advanced Packaging. Strengthen critical-thinking skills across the team.
  • Data-Driven Problem Solving: Lead root-cause analysis using statistical tools such as JMP and SPC to monitor process capability, analyse data and implement corrective actions. Ensure that the team's technical and quality reports are rigorous and of a high standard.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Management: Act as the technical point of contact for key customers, clearly presenting progress, risks and technical roadmaps.
  • Technical Mentorship: Guide and mentor senior and junior integration engineers, promoting technical excellence and strong engineering discipline. Support the team's technical expertise and career development.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • Education: Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related semiconductor discipline.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a section head or team leader for an engineering team, plus at least 5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication. A strong background in advanced process integration in a 300 mm fab environment is required.
  • Domain Expertise: Good understanding of unit-process interactions, device physics, defect mechanisms and yield learning. Experience in advanced CMOS, silicon photonics or heterogeneous integration is a strong advantage.
  • Industrialisation Track Record: Proven success in moving complex process flows from early development to industrialisation, technology transfer or New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Analytical Skills: Critical thinker with proficiency in statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and fab data analytics platforms (e.g., JMP, Spotfire, or similar).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; capable of aligning diverse internal teams and external executive clients toward shared technical milestones.
