Researcher Source/Drain Epitaxy

Research & development - Leuven | Just now

Develop and optimise selective source/drain epitaxy processes for advanced CMOS devices, with particular focus on nanosheet and future logic architectures.

Researcher Source/Drain Epitaxy

What you will do

As a member of the Epitaxial Growth group (EPI), which leads imec’s research in semiconductor epitaxy, you will:

  • Develop processes enabling the growth of highly doped epitaxial materials, including optimization of dopant incorporation, activation and resulting electrical properties. For this purpose, design, execute and analyse experiments on 300 mm wafers, correlating epitaxial process conditions with material, structural and electrical performance.
  • Integrate selective epitaxial growth processes into advanced device flows, evaluating interactions between epitaxial layers and upstream/downstream processing steps, including surface preparation and thermal-budget effects. This is done in collaboration with device integration, process and characterization teams.
  • Ensure process readiness and robustness for transfer your processes and learnings to Fab Engineering support teams or external partners (technology transfers).
  • Explore new epitaxial materials, precursors and doping concepts.
  • Report about your work to internal and external partners, on international conferences, publish key results in scientific journals and turn new ideas into IP.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field, preferably with a focus on semiconductor materials and/or epitaxial growth.
  • You have hands-on experience with semiconductor epitaxy, ideally RP-CVD-based growth of Si, SiGe, Ge or related materials.
  • You have a good understanding of solid-state physics, semiconductor material science, and doping technologies.
  • You are used to correlate experimental plans, process, material properties and electrical performance.
  • You enjoy collaborating with equipment suppliers, process, integration, device and characterization teams.
  • You combine a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with a hands-on approach and can work independently while communicating your results clearly within multidisciplinary R&D teams.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through scientific publications and presentations.
