Student project: Exploration of a systolic SDR/NM-AI processor architecture

The goal is to develop a systolic processor, which is optimized to both AI-inferencing and radio signal processing.

*Important for non-EU students: You’ll need to be registered at a Dutch university to meet immigration requirements.

What you will do

You will explore the processor architecture on the following key-performance metrics:

  • Area and power efficiency. Compare the required area and power consumption (i.e., through processor utilization) through mapping of a to-be defined set of radio processing algorithms, against hardwired solutions of the same algorithms
  • Analyze real-time performance of the processor architecture
  • Analyze/explore the efficiency of the instruction-set of the processor
  • Analyze interoperability of AI-inferencing and signal processing on the same core (i.e., temporal/spatial schedule)

What we do for you

You will be working on cutting-edge research on a topic that is relevant to academic research and industrial applications. To help you on this journey, we offer a flexible environment where you can be the leader of your own research while having the support of experts from signal processing and systems design to complete your tasks. As part of the Signal Processing team in IMEC-Netherlands, you will have opportunities to learn from some of the best minds in analog and digital circuits, data science and other research domains.

Who you are

  • You are an MSc student in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Data Science
  • You have an affinity with different architectures of neural networks (ConvNet, LSTM, etc.)
  • You have basic knowledge of signal processing
  • Preferably, you have basic knowledge of baseband processing for a wireless communication
  • You have knowledge of computer HW architecture and basic understanding of compilers
  • You are available for a period of 6-8 months
  • You are familiar with system-modelling in C++ and Python
  • You are self-starter and able to work independently
  • You are entitled to do an internship in the Netherlands
  • Good written and verbal English skills
