Senior Biomedical Researcher

We need you as a Senior Biomedical Researcher to be part of our interdisciplinary team to investigate technologies that can be used for creating innovative health solutions. In this team, you will work next to biomedical, biochemical, electrical, software engineers and data scientists. As a key contributor, you'll engage in cutting-edge research activities focused on photonics technology for health. 

What you will do 

• You will be bridging technology with physiology and disease, with the ability to work across multiple disciplines such as electronics, photonics, (bio)mechanics, AI, algorithms, physiology, and cardiovascular diseases. 
• You define a clear vision for long-term strategy as well as practical approaches to translate it into short-term project goals. You share knowledge with the team, document, provide technical guidance, and help driving the technical roadmap. 
• In collaboration with customers, partners, and engineers from different disciplines, you combine cutting-edge research results with state-of-the-art components in multi-disciplinary R&D projects from prototyping and exploration to implementation and validation in real-life or clinical studies. In parallel identifying possible solutions to develop imec’s biomedical IP. 
• Interact with customers and/or external stakeholders to align on system requirements and periodical progress meetings.  
• Deliver high quality output, in a timely fashion, and in line with requirements. 
• Your work is disseminated as inventions, publications, conferences, key technology or directly to customers. 
• Regularly communicate your work, both the achievements and the challenges you face to the team, taking on broad feedback and providing feedback to others. Provide input to system improvements, and in the processes employed.

Who you are

• PhD in biomedical engineering, biophysics or similar. 
• 8+ years after PhD developing and/or using technology in health-related research. 
• Deep understanding of cardiovascular function and processes (pressure/flow variation in the cardiovascular system) and being able to link this knowledge to technology.
• Maintains a broad network, established of relevant (clinical) stakeholders, track record of scientific publications and inventions. 
• Proven track record in leading and co-authoring consortia. 
• Strong team player, proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams. 
• You like technical challenges and are inspired by them. 
• With your hands-on attitude and practical mindset, you take responsibility for the complete process from specification to implementation, testing and debugging, including communication and alignment with different stakeholders. 
• A clear goal getter, even in ambiguous research processes. 
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken). 
• You see changes as an opportunity to learn and grow. 
• Quick learner, able and interested in acquiring new skills and competences.
