Researcher Quantum Sensing
What you will do
Imec’s Exploratory devices and new materials unit is developing novel processes, materials and devices to enable new applications in a wide array of market segments. In the growing R&D activity of quantum technology, we are looking for a researcher to strengthen our quantum sensing team. This team will be a key driver for the research on quantum sensing devices, collaborating closely with system engineers and photonic specialists.
Responsibilities will include:
- Have a deep understanding of quantum sensing topics, and especially on the topic of color center vacancies.
- Connect sensor system specifications to device performance requirements
- Translate device requirements into fabrication process specifications.
- Work closely with process engineers to develop, evaluate and give feedback on fabrication process flows
- Characterization of quantum sensing devices
- Assist in writing and preparation of proposals for funded or bilateral projects.
- Guide development and daily activities of PhDs, postdocs and master students

Who you are
- You are a self-motivated researcher, who seizes opportunities and is enthused by new challenges. You benchmark your results with state of the art and explore new methodologies that go beyond today’s solutions.
- You have a PhD degree or equivalent experience in Materials/Electronics Engineering, chemistry, physics, Nano-science/nano-technology or another related field.
- You have extensive theoretical knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, quantum sensing, and in particular color vacancies.
- You are experienced with characterization techniques to characterize quantum sensors.
- You have cleanroom experience and knowledge about nanofabrication techniques.
- You have experience in project writing. You are organized and can structure a complex project.
- You have excellent communication skills, that you will use to interface with internal and external customers.
- You take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team.
- You are result-driven and flexible to meet stringent deadlines with quality output.
- The imec environment requires a good team player with customer-oriented communication and reporting skills.
