Researcher PIC Laser Design
A practical and hands-on Researcher with a passion for exotic wavelengths
What you will do
As a Researcher PIC Laser Design, you will play a crucial role in system design and implementation of photonic integrated circuit (PIC) based tunable laser technologies for health and agricultural applications. You will be responsible for designing new generations of PIC based tunable lasers. Furthermore, your role will be critical in supporting internal teams or external customers working in those application domains.
- PIC design: Design PIC systems using both our custom laser design tool based on analytical modeling and commercial photonics design and simulation tools such as Lumerical, making sure the designs meet project specifications.
- PIC (tunable) laser subsystem design: Design tunable PIC laser subsystems using custom active-passive simulation tools.
- PIC layout: Convert system designs into mask layouts using PDKs provided by the foundry.
- PIC characterization: Test designs in our photonics lab after fabrication to validate and improve designs.
- Proof-of-Concept Development: Collaborate with R&D teams to integrate PICs into proof-of-concept agricultural/health systems, ensuring they meet design specifications and performance criteria.
- Cross site collaboration: Collaborate with application teams in our sites in Wageningen and Eindhoven, and with photonics platform and hybrid assembly teams in our sites in Leuven and Ghent.
- External customers and research partners: Working and collaborating with customers and research partners outside of imec in commercial and funded projects.
- Seeking opportunities for PIC implementation: Looking for opportunities inside and outside of imec where photonic systems can contribute to photonic sensing applications.
- Sharing research output: Writing publications and patents, and presenting your work at conferences is a critical part of this role, along with visiting conferences to stay on top of the current trends in photonics.
