The assignment 

The Health sector in imec is a world-leading research and innovation hub where nanoelectronics and digital technologies are developed for health applications. In our Neuropixels program, we are designing and fabricating neural probes in silicon chip technology for brain research. It incorporates innovations that point the way to a better understanding of the brain, and ultimately will lead to diagnostic and prosthetic tools to tackle human brain diseases. 

These state-of-the-art probes are being distributed over neuroscience labs over the whole world. To meet the customers’ demand, we are increasing our production capacity and we are looking for an extra workforce to join our team. This person will help us with the quality control (optical inspection of fragile asics before and after packaging) and logistics (handling packing and unpacking of shipments of wafers and packaged devices). 

Function description  

  • Optical microscopic inspection and optical verification of packaged asics before/after assembly. 
  • Optical microscopic inspection and optical verification of wafers before assembly. 
  • Logistics: preparing shipments to the packaging company and customers and do tracking/logging/stock keeping of the devices (barcode, database). 
  • Logistics: unpacking and incoming inspection of the assembled asics before testing.
  • Safely handling and storing wafers with fragile neural probes. 
  • Helping in the continuous optimization of the workflow to increase efficiency and yield. 

Required knowledge and skills

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • You have fine handling skills to handle fragile probes.
  • You have a very punctual and organized mindset and do not mind repetitive work.
  • You are fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • You are proactive, flexible and able to work autonomously but also in a team. 
  • Experience with handling ESD-sensitive mechanical components is a plus.
