Lead Process Integration Engineer for Specialized Products Engineering

Research & development - Leuven | Just now

As a world-leading R&D and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies, IMEC brings together brilliant minds from all over the world to shape the future of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, life sciences, and sustainable energy. IMEC also leverages its state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication infrastructure to transform its R&D capabilities into advanced product manufacturing.

Lead Process Integration Engineer for Specialized Products Engineering

Turn first-of-a-kind technologies into advanced products

Some of our advanced products are built on top of standard CMOS substrates, including ultra-high-density DNA sequencers, advanced biosensors and other heterogeneously integrated systems. We are looking for a Lead Process Integration Engineer to own the end-to-end integration process flows of these products, enabling projects to successfully transition from prototype research and development to stable, repeatable, and scalable products for our customers.

In this high-impact technical role, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge R&D and high-yielding, robust 300mm wafer fabrication. You will be working within a team of highly capable and dedicated integration engineers where your technical leadership and engineering creativity will directly shape how these products are engineered.

What you will do

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Process Integration Ownership: Define, optimize, and oversee complete integration process flows for key customer 300mm wafer fabrication programs, balancing performance, yield, and manufacturability.
  • Industrialisation & NPI: Spearhead the transition of advanced technology nodes from R&D into a reliable operational cadence, establishing robust process baselines, design rules, and defect-reduction strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with module experts (Lithography, Etch, Thin Films, CMP, and Advanced Packaging) to resolve complex integration challenges, wafer excursions, and yield limiters.
  • Data-Driven Problem Solving: Drive root-cause analysis using advanced statistical tools (such as JMP and SPC methodologies) to monitor process capability, analyze inline/WAT data, and implement corrective actions.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Management: Serve as a primary technical point of contact for key customers, presenting progress updates, risk assessments, and technical roadmaps with clarity and confidence.
  • Technical Mentorship: Guide, mentor, and elevate senior and junior integration engineers across the department, fostering a culture of technical excellence and rigorous engineering discipline.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • Education: Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related semiconductor discipline.
  • Experience: 7+ years of hands-on industry experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication, with a strong, demonstrable background in advanced process integration within a 300mm fab environment.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of unit process interactions, device physics, defect mechanisms, and yield learning curves. Experience with advanced CMOS, silicon photonics, or heterogeneous integration is a strong plus.
  • Industrialisation Track Record: Proven success in taking complex process flows from early development through industrialisation, technology transfer, or new product introduction (NPI).
  • Analytical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in statistical data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and fab data analytics platforms (e.g., JMP, Spotfire, or similar).
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills; capable of aligning diverse internal teams and external executive clients toward shared technical milestones.
