Advancing Calibration and Modeling for Air Quality Devices

What you will do

NitroSense is a sensor system developed by OnePlanet Research Center to monitor outdoor air quality using commercially available electrochemical sensors. A challenge in the development and applications is the strong cross-sensitivity of electrochemical sensors to temperature and humidity – not only the absolute level but also the rate of change. Moreover, the circuitry for reading out the sensors is sensitive to these environmental factors as well, which could decrease the signal-to-noise ratio even further especially when significant signal boosting is needed. Understanding how sensor outputs are influenced by both system configurations and environmental factors is a critical first step towards reliable measurements. A whole-system approach will be applied to assess and model the behaviour of the NitroSense.

What we do for you

We offer a challenging and international environment at the forefront of technology. OnePlanet is a new collaboration of 3 renowned and globally respected research institutes/universities: Wageningen University & Research, Radboud University, Radboudumc, and Imec. By joining the OnePlanet team, you will be part of a team of world changers, disruptive innovators, and practical thinkers. Here, your ideas will have an impact on our future lives.

Your tasks:

  • To meticulously design and carry out experiments to ensure the validity and reliability of experimental results through rigorous testing.
  • To collaborate effectively with team members and communicate results clearly.
  • To quantitatively describe the experimental observations.
  • To work with modelling, including developing, validating, and refining models to simulate real-world phenomena and predict outcomes.

Who you are

  • You are a MSc student in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, experimental physics or a related field.
  • You have knowledge and a strong affinity with data analysis and modelling.
  • You are available for a period of 6 months.
  • You are motivated by cooperation and interdisciplinary.
  • Entitled to do an internship in the Netherlands.
  • Motivated student eager to work independently and expand knowledge in the field.
  • Good written and verbal English skills.
