What you will do

Take the lead of the electronic system design of (active implantable) medical device prototypes in accordance with the medical device regulations. In the Solutions team we develop and protype cutting-edge wearable sensors and implantable devices for international customers.  
As a Senior Electronic System Engineer Medical Devices your main responsibilities are: 

  • Lead electronic system design and development for Medical Device prototypes based on imec ASICs and off-the-shelf components, DSP/microcontrollers and radio transceivers, while interfacing to PC’s, smartphones and other portable devices.
  • Deliver high quality system designs, in a timely fashion, and in accordance with international medical device regulations (ISO 13485, FDA US21CFR820, CE MDD93/42, and IEC 60601-1 series). 
  • Hardware testing, characterization, and troubleshooting, including board bring-up, design of test tooling and adaptation of existing platforms to new specifications.
  • Interact with customers to define (system) requirements and suppliers for manufacturing activities. 
  • Documenting design, development, and testing activities following the best engineering practices. 
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary project teams consisting of electrical, mechanical, software, and biomedical engineers to implement, verify, and validate electronic systems.
  • Sharing your expertise and knowledge with the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Who you are

We are looking for a candidate who possesses: 

  • MSc degree in electrical engineering or a similar field. 
  • 5+ years’ experience in (low power) electronic system design, preferably in the field of implantables and wireless communication. 
  • Relevant experience with schematic capture, PCB layout and simulation tools, DFT and DFM techniques. 
  • Profound knowledge of analog and digital design, signal acquisition chains, design principles, signal & power integrity, EMC/EMI, basic RF design techniques (e.g. impedance matching, antennas, RF amplifier). 
  • Experience in hardware development in accordance with medical device regulations such as IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 is preferred. Familiarity with CE marking, EMC testing and risk management (ISO 14971). 
  • Experience with formal development according to the V model defining requirements, test specifications, test execution and reporting.  
  • Experience with prototyping, debugging, failure analysis and patching of HW miniaturized systems. 
    Experience with supplier and customer interaction. 
  • Agile team player mentality, actively contributing to the success of the team. 
  • Adaptability to change, viewing it as an opportunity for learning and personal growth. 
  • Quick learner, able and interested in acquiring new skills and competences. 
  • Passion for technical challenges and a hands-on attitude, taking ownership of the entire process from specification to implementation, testing, and debugging. 
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
