RF GaN/III-V Process Integration Engineer

To enable the next generation of communication systems (5G, 6G), the circuits are getting more complex than ever and are composed today of several chips, each implemented in different technologies, each optimized for a specific function. Downscaling of CMOS technology has allowed the integration of high-speed transceivers on Silicon chips, but power amplifiers using III-V technologies, and high-performance switches fabricated on SOI substrates remain the preferred choice for RF Front-End circuits. In order to develop cost and power-efficient RF systems, the co-integration of these different devices becomes critical.

Imec’s Advanced RF program aims at providing the required RF front-end module technologies operating up to mm-wave frequencies. The program focuses on integrating high-speed III-V or GaN transistors on large-scale Si wafers (200 mm and 300 mm), but also provides circuit, system and packaging solutions. For more details, explore: https://www.imec-int.com/en/expertise/solutions-5g-and-wireless-iot-communication/beyond-5g-technology
In line with this, we have an opening in the Connectivity Pathfinding (COP) department of imec for a Process Integration Engineer. This department leads cutting-edge R&D activities, including exploratory pathfinding for next-generation applications. This is your opportunity to join us to make an impact as an individual contributor and help shape the next generation of wireless communication.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement innovative integration flows of advanced compound semiconductors on Si
  • Coordinate and streamline project execution by collaborating with colleagues in device design, characterization, process development, metrology, and defectivity teams.
  • Define and drive design-of-experiments to enable technology development.
  • Follow up on the processing of test material and device demonstrator lots, collect and analyse performance data, and report results to internal and external stakeholders, and the scientific community through publications and presentations.
  • Represent imec in discussions with global semiconductor players
  • Stay up to date with scientific developments and share knowledge through presentations, publications, and conferences.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have obtained a Master’s degree or PhD (preferred) in science or engineering, preferably with a focus on semiconductor process technology and materials characterization.
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or integration is essential; familiarity with RF GaN/III-V technology and device engineering is a strong advantage.
  • Skills in Design of Experiments, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision-making are highly valued.
  • You are an enthusiastic team player with strong organizational and project management capabilities, able to complete tasks independently and on time.
  • You like taking initiative, you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
  • You have excellent communication and reporting skills to interface with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You show the flexibility to switch between multiple projects according to changing priorities.
