R&D Manager Platform Efficiency (Platform & Operations Efficiency)

What you will do

The Platform & Operations Efficiency Team (POET) has responsibility to drive speed of learning in imec’s 200 & 300mm Si pathfinding and platformization activities and to create and maintain stable modules and flows. This needs to happen for imec’s research test vehicles and critical customer projects in many interesting fields like logic, memory, interconnect, 3D, Si photonics, sensors, MEMS and life science applications. 

The Platform Efficiency (PLatEff) group is responsible for process integration and flow projects which enhance the speed, repeatability, and overall stability of business critical flows. The focus is on using best practice standards from the industry, margin evaluation, long term stability, and applying flows across product families for improving the speed of research. 

  • As R&D Manager, you will be responsible for managing a group of 12 experienced colleagues, with focus on Process Integration and Project management. As well as,  ensuring timely progress and completion, managing the task balancing in the team.  Expand the team through effective recruiting to increase the scope of projects. 
  • Work with upper management to plan new projects, both internal and externally funded, to ensure performance of the process flows meet customer needs. 
  • Manage expected pilot line projects associated with the EU Chips Act, as needed.  Ensure a detailed plan of improvement, report on progress, reach final capability demonstrations. 
  • Support legacy baseline technology at imec, and engage in tech transfers to customers.  Enhance the value of this technology through performance or capability improvement, and engage in technology transfers to ensure their success. 
  • Together with HR, implement and monitor the HR processes in the team. This includes:  
    • Translating the corporate/project/program goals into personal performance management targets.  
    • Coaching the members of the group towards achieving their goals.  
    • Actively seek input from stakeholders to ensure a fair balance for each employee in HR processes.  
  • Create a true team atmosphere and create opportunities for information sharing.  
  • Ensure and promote the development of the team through coaching and training, on both technical and behavioral skills. 
  • Work across product and responsibility matrix organization at imec at a broad level, to ensure the projects are supported and alignment is maintained from process and fab teams, to ensure success of the projects. 
  • The position requires an onsite presence of 4 days per week in average.

Who you are

  • You have obtained a master’s degree (or PhD, preferred) in applied or material science or engineering, 10+ years relevant experience in process integration in Logic, Memory, or 3D integration specialties. 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading teams, with direct supervision and management of technical team members.  
  • High energy, enthusiastic leader, who leads through an inspirational attitude.  Positive and determined approach to problem solving, with the capability to drive to success. Proven track record of success.
  • Demonstrated management skills, including the ability to influence, engage, and motivate others. Good resource planning skills and project planning skills. Able to manage a broad variety of stakeholders simultaneously. 
  • Skilled at working across organizational boundaries and handling conflicting priorities. Excellent communication skills are essential.  
  • You like taking initiative, you are persuasive and bold, while keeping a constructive attitude.  
  • You have strong English communication skills to work successfully in an internationally dynamic team environment. 
  • Please note that this position is based in Leuven, Belgium. You either live in Belgium or are willing to relocate. Relocation support is provided by imec.
