Electrical characterization test engineer

What you will do

Imec leverages its expertise in the extreme miniaturization of electronic circuits to be one of the key drivers behind the next generation of neural probes: small brain implants that contain electrodes for recording the electrical signals from neurons. These Neuropixels probes are widely considered to be the ‘gold standard’ in neuroscience. Designed with advanced silicon chip technology, they offer thousands of electrodes for precise neuron interaction, promoting profound insights into brain functionality. These probes are commercially available and are being distributed to more than thousand neuroscience labs all over the world.

Imec is seeking a team member to join our characterization team to test these advanced devices.

You will:

  • Perform calibration and electrical testing of fragile probes in saline solution with custom made software in a lab environment (handling of sensitive mechanical & electronic equipment and liquids).
  • Perform sharpening of thin silicon needles with a custom-made tool.
  • Perform microscopic inspection and optical verification of probes before/after assembly.
  • Safely handle and store wafers with fragile neural probes.
  • Help in the continuous optimization of the workflow to increase efficiency and yield.
