What you will do

Nowadays transistors are ubiquitous in semiconductor technology, both in logic and memory products. Further logic scaling is subject to intense research, calling for novel materials, integration flows and geometries. Similarly, novel materials are incorporated and studied to improve performances of back-end transistors that are used as memory device selector, allowing 3D stacking and thus increased memory density. In this family, imec has recently developed to a mature level back-end transistors based on oxide semiconductors like Indium-Gallium-Zinc-Oxide (IGZO). This technology not only holds the promise of extending the DRAM scaling roadmap, but also increases drastically the power efficiency due to the extremely low leakage current of the IGZO material.  

To further strengthen the device characterization team, we are looking for a researcher with solid technical skills in electrical testing and analysis of transistors. Deep insight into the device physics will be required in order to capture the specific properties of the IGZO channel, the impact of materials and process steps involved in the integration flow, as well as the device effects observed along with scaling. The position will also require a creative mindset to solve limitations and generate solutions boosting cell performances. 

You will focus on: 

  • Electrical characterization of transistor devices at wafer level. 
  • Based on data analysis, understand the device physics and guide our integration experts to develop ultra-scaled cells (Lg<20nm), proposing practical solutions allowing further cell improvements in view of application specs. 
  • Interacting closely in a project team with experts from the process, integration, device, modeling, and circuit background

Who you are

  • You have a PhD degree or a few years of experience in the area of microelectronics, electrical engineering, applied physics, or a closely related discipline in academia or industry. 
  • You have experience in MOSFET transistor device design and electrical testing. Experience in Python or JMP scripts coding is a plus. 
  • You are eager to learn new technologies, new techniques, new skills. 
  • You are a team player towards your internal and external partners, and you are motivated to evolve in a high-paced development context.  
  • You have great communication skills since you will work in a multicultural environment.
