Student project: Robotics for laboratory and demonstrators

What you will do

OnePlanet Research Center/imec likes to explore and embed the use of robotics for our field demonstrators and our laboratory experiments. Ideas vary from using robotic arms, XYZ Cartesian robots or even custom-made robotics. The robots will be used to:

  • Assist researchers in our laboratory with accurate and repetitive experiments. (e.g. moving reaction tubes or sensors).
  • Assist with precise rapid prototyping or production (sealing, glueing, dispensing).
  • Operate in orchards to support fruit scanning and sensing.
  • Make our demonstrators for prototypes more attractive.

You will contribute by exploring the needs, the possibilities, experiment and also build setups. And as it is by nature a mechatronics challenge you will work on simulation, (control) software, electronics and mechanics. Explore and select appropriate improvements.

What we do for you

In this internship you will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative research and be an important member of our multidisciplinary development team. We have an electronics lab and a mechanical workshop to support you. And you can learn a lot from the colleagues, but we also expect to learn from you about robotics.

Who you are

  •  A Bachelor or Master student (HBO or WO) in mechatronics or robotics engineering or a related field.
  • Very hands-on and be able to work with milling and drilling machines and 3D printers.
  • Software knowledge (programming in Python) and Electronics knowledge (interfaces, actuate and sensing).
  • Pro-active, outreaching mindset and eager to learn.
  • Enjoying working in a team.
  • Available for 6 months.
