In this MSC thesis project, a multi-sensor radar system embedded in the ceiling of the building will be studied, and human activity in the building will be evaluated using the radar system

What you will do

Device-free localization is a promising technique for indoor positioning in infrastructures, as it eliminates the reliance on custom and costly hardware, and preserves privacy. In this study, mono-static and bistatic radar sensors based on ultrawide-band (UWB) transceivers will be utilized in the ceiling of the building. Multi-sensor radar readouts will be combined to get an accurate understanding of the human activity in the building.

  • Literature survey of the state-of-the-art of presence detection using uwb radar sensors
  • Simulation in Matlab/Python of the feasibility and the accuracy of a multi-sensor radar system
  • Design radar algorithm for people counting with a multi-sensor radar system
  • Measurement with the algorithm running on multi UWB hardware platform, and comparing the human activity to a ground truth reference.

Who you are

  • You are a Msc student in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or Computer Science.
  • You are available for a period of at least 9 months.
  • Prior experience and affinity with wireless signal processing.
  • You are familiar with MATLAB or Python.
  • You are entitled to do an internship in the Netherlands.
  • You are self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Motivated student eager to expand knowledge in the field.
  • Good written and verbal English skills.
