What you will do

You will join EDiT’s Health cluster, a multi-disciplinary team of domain experts, developers, architects, user researchers and project managers, collaborating on projects that aim to facilitate insights in how we can live longer, healthier, and more satisfying lives. As so many of our insights in this field will come from data in the coming years, we want to contribute to this bold future of Health and Healthcare by unlocking health data at scale and establishing a local Health Data Space. We will apply this in relevant application domains e.g., predicting atrial fibrillation supported via federated data analytics or combining multiple data sources to make informal caregivers of patients living with dementia more resilient. Our contributions will enable a wide range of healthcare stakeholders to create new Health insights.

What you will do

As a senior member of EDiT’s Health cluster, you will play a central role in the design & planning of the architectural roadmap for our Open Health Data Space initiative.

Your day-to-day activities are: 

• You iteratively define the architectural roadmap for the Open Health Data Space, hereby interfacing with the Data Space Solution Team and the technical architect.
• You define the architecture for our applied research projects ensuring these are in line with our own long term Data Space roadmaps.
• You interpret and discuss project goals, document software architecture, and create proof of concepts that support our running projects and future software instantiations. 
• You define non-functional requirements and mapping them to functional ones in a structured manner (& via thorough documentation skills).

Who you are

“Must-haves” (essential skills):

• Master in Computer Science/Engineering or acquired equivalent level by experience; with minimal 5 years of professional experience in Software or System Architecture roles.
• You like to code and investigate new technologies and love to automate things.
• You have experience in designing complex software products or prototypes using different architectural styles and patterns, using (preferably open source) building blocks like data storage and databases, data streaming, security, API brokers, IoT agents, caching agents, graph engines, .... 
• You are pragmatic when it comes to making (technological) choices.
• You have experience with or an understanding of architectures relevant to the Health domain.
• You understand the Data Spaces concept, or other decentralized data architectures.
• You have experience with supporting data science projects.
• You have a research-minded attitude and interest in research & innovation with societal relevance.
• English (professional proficiency).

“Should-haves” (a great candidate is familiar with most of these):

• Willing & able to coach junior team members.
• You are familiar with some technologies our software developers work with: JavaScript/Typescript, node.js, Docker/Kubernetes, MS Azure ecosystem, etc. 
• You do not favour any specific programming language (although we do most of our programming in Typescript and Python).
• Team player accustomed to Scrum or similar Agile process.

“Could-haves” (it is nice to tick a few of these boxes):

• Experience in (managing) or have made contributions to open-source projects (please mention in your application!).
• Dutch (notions or intention to learn).
