Imec USA is looking for a Researcher for an exciting new research program on Low power distributed and collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) leveraging on-device learning at our Berkeley location in California.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Develop an end-to-end simulation and modeling framework that helps evaluate power and performance of various in-memory & near-memory compute architectures for training supervised/unsupervised and reinforcement learning algorithms.
  • Explore novel compute architectures, dataflow, and memory organization that helps reduce power consumption during training leveraging in-memory and near-memory compute.
  • Evaluate the impact of various novel technologies and memory devices on compute for AI workloads.

Key Qualifications

  • Recently completed or about to graduate from a PhD program in a top university in a relevant discipline such as Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with:
    *Developing simulation frameworks for system and compute-architecture exploration.
    *In-depth understanding of computer architecture fundamentals and analyzing tradeoffs involved in-memory and near memory computing
    *Good understanding of fundamentals of deep neural networks and reinforcement learning
    *Design experience with Verilog, Chisel, and proficiency in scripting languages such as Python
    *Experience with custom design is a plus
    *Good grasp of fundamentals of semiconductor technology fundamentals and novel memory structures.
    *Designing neural networks on embedded devices is a plus
  • Experience working in R&D environments with successful publications at top IC Design, design automation and computer architecture conferences such as, ISSCC, VLSI Symposium, ISCA, ICCAD, DAC, patents or both is preferred
  • Can present your research effectively at conferences and in other technical forums.
  • Highly motivated to work in a research environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
