Imec USA is looking for a Researcher for an exciting new research program on Low power distributed and collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) leveraging on-device learning at our Berkeley location in California.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Develop reduced precision and sparse training algorithms that enable on-device learning/training at the edge.
  • Develop reduced precision mathematics and optimization techniques for supervised, unsupervised (VAE/Normalizing flows) and Reinforcement Learning.
  • Explore low resolution, low memory training techniques to overcome limitations of next-generation low power compute architectures such as in-memory computing.
  • Develop low-resolution training techniques for various deep generative and reinforcement learning tasks taking into account the unique challenges that arise in compute-in-memory architectures.

Key Qualifications

  • Recently completed or about to graduate from a PhD program in a top university in a relevant discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • Experience with:
    *Developing novel low resolution and sparse training algorithms for Deep neural networks, deep generative models and deep reinforcement learning.
    *Comprehensive understanding of fundamentals of DNN and RL
    *Comprehensive understanding of fundamentals of optimization theory, convex optimization, and distributed learning.
    *Designing, implementing, and training DL/RL algorithms in state of the frameworks such as Pytorch and tensor-flow
    *Designing neural networks on embedded devices is a plus
    *Knowledge of computer architecture is a plus
    *Proficiency in programming with Python
  • Experience working in R&D environments with successful publications at top AI conferences such as NeurIPS/ICML/ICLR, patents or both is preferred
  • Can present your research effectively at conferences and in other technical forums.
  • Highly motivated to work in a research environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
