Researcher Environmental Sensing

As a Researcher Environmental Sensing you will contribute to the technologies that will define tomorrow's society. In this new role, you will utilize your technical expertise and domain knowledge to drive research activities with a specific focus on air quality (nitrogen compound, particulate matter sensing, a.o) using fine-grained networks. You will work in a multidisciplinary team consisting of amongst others - sensor application engineers, data scientists and hardware engineers who are creating innovative solutions in environmental monitoring and precision agriculture. The team focuses on filling in the knowledge gaps related to air, water, and soil quality, by developing novel sensor solutions combined with intelligent algorithms. We bring research into the field, participating in Regional and EU funded projects that aim to quantify the impact of human activities on health and the environment.  

What you will do

• Contribute to OnePlanet research activities related to air quality, and in the future as well for water and soil quality measurements.
• Develop and validate innovative sensor technologies that can be used in solutions to measure environmental pollutants.
• Be involved in the measurement and analysis of various pollutants and convert data into insights.
• Based on the environmental program strategy, contribute to the design and implementation of an R&D roadmap for the development and deployment of relevant sensor technologies.

Who you are

• Master's degree or preferably a Ph.D. in environmental science or in a technical field, e.g. (applied) physics, chemistry, materials science with a track record related to environmental sciences.
• You have several years of experience in environmental sensing, preferably Air Quality (measurement of nitrogen compounds, particulate matter, including IoT sensor technologies).
• Experience in deployment of new technology: from defining requirements to sensor unit deployment, validation, and interpretation of results.
• You have strong analytical as well as interpersonal skills.
• You have a pro-active and result driven attitude, combined with strong organizational skills.
• Experience with data analysis and statistics (Python, R) is a plus.
• Experience in atmospheric dispersion modeling is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills in English and preferably in Dutch.
