Project Manager Academic Research

Management - Leuven | More than two weeks ago

As a PM Academic Research, you will manage academic research projects in collaboration with imec research.

Project Manager Academic Research

What you will do

Imec has a long-standing and strategic relationship with specific research groups at Flemish universities. These groups consist of about 700 talented researchers in 9 research groups across Flemish universities. These researchers have dual affiliations: they are part of their university and part of imec. This strategic collaboration gives imec direct access to new basic research; research that challenges, inspires and helps to implement our roadmaps. It also gives the university groups access to imec’s global deep-tech research and partners. To enable closer collaboration, imec supports specific academic research projects in these research groups.

We are working on a stronger integration of these academic research projects into the imec R&D organization. To manage these projects, we are looking for a “Project Manager Academic Research”.

  • You will be part of a team that manages the integration of these research groups (called Embedded Groups - “EG’s”), reporting directly to the Managing Director of the Embedded Groups, and working closely with the steerco of the Embedded Groups.
  • You will discuss possible new research project proposals with the designated Embedded Groups and relevant imec technology groups, according to imec strategic objectives.
  • You will act as the project manager of such research projects, executed by resources from the Embedded Groups.
  • You will develop the project scope and objectives and develop a realistic project plan, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • You will ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • You will use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs. You will measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • You will ensure that comprehensive project documentation and reports are generated and organize the project reporting and follow-up/tracking in cooperation with the project sponsors and project leaders.
  • You will be the SPOC within imec regarding these EG research projects, both for imec and the universities.

What we do for you

We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.

  • You have experience in project management: leading and following-up projects with multiple partners in a structured and methodological way.
  • You enjoy keeping the overview and driving multidisciplinary developments from a system perspective as well as from a technology perspective.
  • Industrial experience is a strong plus.
  • Both hands-on mentality and system thinking are required.
