Memory Device Team Leader 

What you will do

The Compute and Memory Device (CMD) department of imec develops a wide variety of device concepts, both for memory and logic applications. To optimize the research efficiency, the department consists of several functional teams that have specific expertise fields, infrastructure, and methodologies. Between these teams, the Memory Device team (MDE) develops emerging concepts and technologies for active memory applications. Over the last years MDE has been gaining expertise in various memory technologies, such as Resistive RAM, Phase-Change memory, DRAM, Floating-body cell, etc., as well as in selector device concepts like Ovonic Threshold Selector, Oxide-Semiconductor based selectors like Indium-Gallium-Zinc-Oxide (IGZO), etc. To strengthen the expertise of the MDE team, we offer a team leader position. This position of course requires technical and scientific device background, but a large emphasis is also given to people management skills. Some of the typical objectives you will have to achieve are as follows: 

• Monitor the individual performances of the team members, by defining the objectives and carrying regular reviews, evaluations, and feedback conversations.  
• Plan and follow-up the daily work of team members, ensure that deadlines are met within the team, make sure that the output quality is good, 
• Motivate and coach team members, 
• Retain an overview of the technical skills within the team, 
• Ensure the constructive cooperation within the team, organize recurrent meetings, 
• Collaborate with other team leaders of the department, 
• Interact with internal customers: manage resources, identify priorities, identify solutions for business continuity,  
• Scientific coordination: plan scientific and technological research, monitor the timing/progress/priorities and quality, offer support in case of difficult scientific and conceptual problems.

Who you are

• You have a PhD degree or equivalent in the area of microelectronics, electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, material science, or a closely related discipline, and you gained further (>5 years) practical experience in semiconductor R&D environment. 
• You have experience in leading students, engineers, or technical people, 
• You have the required soft skillset for a people manager: you communicate in a clear and effective way, you are persuasive and assertive while keeping a constructive attitude, you take pride in coaching and developing people, you have ambitious goals for the whole team, you are able to gather the team around this same goal, and you have energy and drive for results. You also show courage when difficult decisions are needed. 
• You are eager to learn new technologies, new techniques, new skills and can learn in a fast manner. You also develop autonomy as individual scientific contributor.
