Create prototypes in an innovative R&D environment for Agriculture & Food and Health & Nutrition Solutions

Mechanical Engineer

What you will do

We need you as a Mechanical Engineer to be part of our multidisciplinary team to develop mechanical solutions that can be used for research and studies in the fields of preventive health, agriculture & food. In close collaboration with engineers from different disciplines, you will be responsible for the design and production of parts for innovative prototype systems that need mechanical, mechatronic, or robotic functions. A typical use case is a sensor development project where there is a need for a mechanism in which a sensor can measure a fluid. The mechanism for sampling and filtering the fluid is something you will develop. Additionally, you will support engineers from other domains (industrial design, electronics, data science, biomedical) with application development questions and maintenance.

Your responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer are:

  • Developing prototypes and fixtures to be used for research, demonstrators, and test setups.
  • Producing and assembling prototypes with tools on site, such as 3D printing, CNC machining, and laser cutting.
  • Outsourcing the manufacturing and assembly of parts to external suppliers.
  • Preparing necessary technical documentation to use in manufacturing, such as a bill of materials and 2D engineering drawings.
  • Supporting with mechanical calculations, such as stress analyses, CAE/FEA, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Organizing the activities in the mechanical workshop. Including re-stocking of consumables, maintenance of equipment, and providing workshop introduction training.
