The team
The META group is a key player in the Fab organization of imec, responsible for wafer level electrical test in imec. The team delivers characterization services to the R&D organization by providing automatic test applications and hardware and software support on lab test systems. We contribute directly to the success of many research programs in imec.
An important aspect of the electrical test lab is the management of the lab hardware, as hardware engineer you are member of the operations team and oversee the complete lifecycle of all lab equipment. You will be responsible for all phases in this lifecycle: purchasing new equipment, installation and hook-up, maintenance, user support, and quality control. She/He closely interacts with the technicians in the operations team for all these tasks. The hardware engineer is also strongly connected to the applications and R&D teams to deliver state-of-the-art application solutions.
What you will do
- Supporting the lab hardware lifecycle
- You support the purchase process of all lab hardware by doing market scans making sure all technical requirements are met.
- You drive the installation of all new equipment from delivery to acceptance test.
- You plan and coordinate all maintenance activities (CM/PM) on hardware performed by internal and external technicians.
- You execute hardware interventions yourself when urgent support is needed.
- You provide user support to all lab users by creating high quality training material and give hands-on trainings to newcomers.
- You define and improve processes to verify quality of the lab hardware.
- You closely collaborate with and coach the technical staff of the operations team.
- You will be the single point of contact for hardware suppliers and the R&D community in all technical matters related to lab hardware.
- You actively look for opportunities to improve our operational and hardware processes.
- You want to realize your ideas hands-on and lift the test lab to a higher level.
- You take the lead (of a small project team) to execute projects (system hook-up, operational improvements).
- You follow trends in the semi-conductor industry and apply this knowledge in the organization.
- You assess the existing measurement hardware landscape and help shape the future hardware test roadmap.

Who you are
- The ideal candidate obtained a degree in Engineering (prefer. Electronics) and has 5+ years professional experience in the electronics or semi-conductor industry.
- You have hands-on experience with wafer probers and/or lab instruments.
- Experience with automated test systems (ATE systems) is a plus.
- Experience with cryogenic systems (wet and dry systems) is a plus.
- Sharing and absorbing technical knowledge is natural for you.
- You have proven experience of writing technical documentation, e.g. SOP, user manual, training material.
- You are a problem solver: you don’t think in problems, but in solutions. You can easily switch from a more strategic approach to a pragmatic approach and act upon it.
- You are a good communicator: you listen actively; you build bridges where needed and are customer focused. You communicate clearly and effectively.

- You are comfortable in the MS Office suite and have some experience with planning tools (Excel, Project, …).
