What you will do

Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology offers faster switching power devices with higher breakdown voltage and lower on-resistance than silicon (Si). GaN power devices are a breakthrough technology, revolutionizing the power electronics landscape and have an exciting roadmap for next generation GaN power devices. To unlock the full potential of the GaN fast switching components, a higher level of integration is required to reduce the inductive and capacitive parasitics. Imec has developed a 200V and 650V GaN-IC platform on Si and SOI, to co-integrate enhancement mode power devices with GaN driver stages and protection circuits on 200mm wafers with state-of-the-art performance and reproducibility. Following our roadmap, we expand the component offering with the integration of depletion-mode logic devices and Schottky barrier diodes. 

To strengthen our R&D team, we are looking for a device engineer to support the design and testing of the integrated components of the GAN-IC platform.  This encompasses the design, layout, and characterization of the GaN power devices, the Schottky diodes, and enhancement mode and depletion mode logic devices, which are all GaN-based.  This requires physical understanding of the test results in order to optimize the device design and the technology.  You will work closely together with the GaN-IC process integration engineer to discuss the results, work together towards continuous improvements and qualification of the devices of the GaN-IC platform. 

Your tasks include:

  • CAD based design and layout of the various components of the platform.
  • You perform electrical testing.
  • Analyze test data and work together with the process integration engineer to optimize the process flow and layout for improved performance and reliability of the various components of the GAN-IC platform.
  • Understand the device physics, band diagram and comprehensive operation of the components under static and dynamic operation, in order to guide the optimization process.
  • As you build up your competences and skills, we expect you to take up responsibilities as a project leader in one of our funded or bilateral projects, as a growth path for your career.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • We are looking for your knowledge in electrical functioning of electronic components, preferably in the field of power electronics, and basic understanding of operation of power systems.
  • Experience in Cadence and programming p-cells is a plus.
  • Experience using TCAD is a plus.
  • You work in a team with the process integration engineer.
  • You can meet deadlines and deliver customer requirements.
  • Good knowledge of English is a must.
