What you’ll do 
Imec is looking for an experienced Director to establish two R&D centers and manage and execute their programs at a new U.S. location(s). The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the assigned location(s), including setting up collaborative R&D programs; running the research and business operations; managing stakeholder relationships; achieving the local and corporate KPIs; securing and managing finances. The ideal candidate will use their startup-mentality and strong track record of success in leading multi-functional teams and complex technical programs in semiconductor or microelectronics industries. The candidate will report to the President of imec US operations and other appropriate technical stakeholders in Belgium.

Responsibilities 
 

Stand up and lead the day-to-day operations and project execution of the centers in coordination and close communication with internal and external stakeholders in the U.S. and Belgium. 
Execute strategic plans in line with imec’s corporate strategy and leveraging imec’s international skill base for the centers’ immediate programs and long-term growth, which includes incubating new ideas. 
Manage to agreed-upon program budgets and work closely with internal operations teams in the U.S. and Belgium.
Build, lead, and continuously develop an effective, high-performing team.
Foster an environment of creative thinking and new ideas to be deployed to the industry's most pressing challenges.
Coordinate closely and regularly with imec technical and business leadership in the U.S. and Belgium.
Manage diverse set of local, state, federal, academic, industry, and international stakeholders diplomatically, including, but not limited to, technical subject matter experts, university faculty and staff, executive leadership, government officials, etc.
Work closely with university faculty and staff to develop and implement a robust workforce development training program.
Contribute expertise to imec’s core and strategic programs in areas such as memory, design enablement, logic, sustainability, etc.
Plan for and execute work in context of the US Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Act priorities, including initiatives from the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) and the National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program (NAPMP). 
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Travel occasionally to meet with customers, suppliers, partners, imec colleagues, and other stakeholders both domestically and internationally.


Requirements:  

A master’s degree or higher in engineering or equivalent experience.
10+ years of deep technical expertise in a semiconductor manufacturing or R&D environment, with ability to dive deep technically as needed.  
10+ years of experience in a senior leadership role within the semiconductor or microelectronics industry with demonstrated general management skills. 
Technical knowledge of chip fabrication techniques with an understanding of:
CMOS and beyond CMOS materials and devices 
Memory technologies
Advanced packaging technologies and concepts
Design, modelling, simulation, and reliability
Manufacturing tools and flows
Semiconductor industry sustainability
Eager to stay up to date on the latest industry and technology developments.
A rich network of industry, academia, state, local, and federal leaders to reach and confer fluently on technical, legal, and business-related matters.
Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken); customer-oriented and diplomatic.
A passion for building and managing high-functioning teams.
Ability to judge problem situations and opportunities, recognize priorities, and act accordingly in a flexible manner.
