What you will do

With first articles on 6G appearing, the industry is moving fast towards more, faster, and more intelligent connectivity. Ten times higher data rates than 5G (>100Gbps), extreme low power and low latency, instantaneous transfer of large amounts of data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowered networks and massive coverage are only a few of the concepts that are being considered for beyond 5G. CMOS has been the vehicle pushing the industry to ever smaller devices, better performance and of course reduced cost, but the unique properties of III-V devices are finding a renewed interest to enable the exciting vision for beyond 5G applications.

In the RF program our ambition is to develop hybrid CMOS/III-V technologies to tackle the speed, power, and performance requirements of these next generation RF Front-End-Modules (RF FEM), where chip/wafer-level stacking with high density interconnects or 2.5D/3D integration will be one of the key enablers.

To strengthen our R&D team, we are looking for an experienced integration engineer to develop this breakthrough technology for next generation wireless communication.

Your tasks will include:

  • Evaluate and down-select different integration options for the demonstration of III-V RF devices in the 300mm fab
  • Work with the unit process groups to develop new flows, co-ordinate the required module developments, define and follow up on experiments and run lots to achieve functional prototypes
  • Collaborate with the device, characterization, reliability and DTCO teams to understand the device requirements and experimental results and feedback these insights into new learning cycles
  • Work with the Program Director to define and maintain the project planning in order to achieve the high-level deliverables of the program

Who you are

  • You have a PhD or a master’s degree in a relevant area, combined with 5+ years on the job experience in VLSI process integration.
  • A strong background in VLSI processing techniques and pathfinding flows for new technologies. Previous experience working in III-V devices or 3D-integration is a plus.
  • You are motivated by new challenges, hands on and driven to achieve project goals.
  • You take initiative and are persuasive and assertive while maintaining a constructive attitude.
  • You enjoy working in cross-functional teams and are able to motivate your colleagues.
  • You are well organized, a strong communicator and able to report on project progress and issues both internally to your management and externally to customers.
  • Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary.
