What you will do

Are you looking for an exciting and diverse role in a research environment on cutting edge technology, this job might interest you!  
We are looking for an engineer with industrial experience to develop research-level Process Design Kits (PDK) for our in-house semiconductor technologies. The main focus is on compact models calibration for advanced nodes.  
As you join a research and development team, you will use industry standards and tools (BSIM, ICCAP, Calibre,...) but you are also interested in research on new devices. You will closely collaborate with device and integration engineers as well as chip design teams, to improve the technology based on specifications and circuit behaviours. You will also interact with external industrial customers who use the models and PDKs that you generate. Thanks to your pragmatic mindset you enjoy performing technical work. However, you also like autonomy and are eager to manage a project.  

You will:  

  • Develop PDKs for next generation devices and processes (research PDKs) 
  • Calibrate compact models with on-wafer measurements using industry standard SPICE models (active and passive devices, for intrinsic and extrinsic effects such as IV & CV, L/W dependencies, LDE effect, series resistance, parasitic capacitances, leakage currents, temperature effects, noise, mismatch, corners) 
  • Design test structures during test chips preparation for model calibration  
  • Own the design kits releases and versioning and models history 
  • Develop dedicated behavioral or physical compact models (through verilogA or small signal equivalents) 
  • working with colleagues to extend models and integrate new effects modelled at imec (ie research on cryogenic temperature, RF, )  
  • Grow the PDK activity for advanced technologies

Who you are

  • We appreciate your expertise in parameter extraction and generation of compact models for semiconductor devices.  
  • You have a hands-on understanding of the effects captured in models through simulation results and circuit behavior.  
  • You are fluent in HDL tools such as Verilog-A, Cadence Virtuoso environment, circuit simulations using Spectre and HSPICE.  
  • We value your first experience in TCAD, PDK layer definition, PDK releases, characterization techniques   
  • You have a good understanding and curiosity for device physics and technology fabrication process.  
  • Thanks to your (basic) knowledge of coding languages such as C++, MATLAB or Python, you will be able to develop custom code for measurement automation, data processing and analysis.  
  • You enjoy building professional relationships at work with colleagues and customers: you are a communicative team player.  
  • Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary.
