Biomedical Researcher / Engineer 

What you will do

We need you as a Biomedical Researcher / Engineer to be part of our interdisciplinary team to investigate technologies that can be used for creating innovative health solutions, like ingestible pills, new biosensors to be used @home. Next to research, you will perform experimental field trials with clinical partners to investigate new sensing technologies for different projects. You will work in a multidisciplinary team of electronic engineers, biochemical engineers, and data scientists. Other tasks include: 

  • Identify the state of the art, its gaps, and possible solutions to develop OnePlanet’s biomedical IP in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.  
  • Perform research on new biomedical and nutrition applications to discover which technologies can be applied. 
  • Execute experiments and verify if the chosen concept works. 
  • Create methods to test, evaluate and analyze the performance of (new) sensors and algorithms. 
  • Together with your team plan and divide activities and adjust them according to progress and priorities.  
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as clinical and industrial partners. 
  • Regularly communicate your work both the achievements and the challenges you face to the team, taking on broad feedback and providing feedback to others. Provide input to system improvements, and in the processes employed.  
  • Publish selected OnePlanet research in scientific articles and conferences.

Who you are

  • You have a Ph.D. with preferably 2+ years of experience or an MSc degree with 7+ years of experience in Biomedical Engineering or a similar field. 
  • Relevant working experience, for example with biomarker measurement (in a home environment). 
  • Experience with data collection on human subjects (e.g. wearables, medical equipment, biology, nutrition) is a big plus. 
  • Experience with designing and executing experiments in a (biomedical) lab environment.  
  • Solid experience with Python and preferably knowledge of MATLAB. 
  • Project management skills and experience with external communication are a plus. 
  • Able to deal with ambiguity in an uncertain research process. You see changes as an opportunity to learn and grow and adapt the research course considering boundary conditions and resources at hand. 
  • Hands-on attitude, which means you take initiative, think pro-actively, have a flexible attitude, and enjoy solving problems.
  • Quick learner interested in acquiring new skills and competences. 
  • Interest in a broad range of health-related topics such as nutrition, behavior, and biology. 
  • Your communication skills in English (written and spoken) are excellent, Dutch is highly preferred for setting up clinical studies and reporting to local stakeholders.
