Wireless Technologies for Social Distancing

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased visibility for wireless technologies for high-resolution ranging. The well-known Coronalert app uses Bluetooth signal strengths to measure the proximity of 2 smartphones. In a businesscontext, we see the fast market introduction of dedicated social distancing alarms, many of which are based on UWBranging.

While the societal added value of these social distancing solutions is undeniable, the question remains how accuratethey are in measuring the 1,5 meter reference distance between people, in operating conditions that are largely unknown to the measuring devices.   

In this webinar, our speakers from academia and industry will:

  • explain and compare current and future technologies and algorithms for high-resolution ranging (Bluetooth, UWB,...)
  • discuss the impact of the environment and the device position wrt the human body on the ranging accuracy
  • highlight the technology innovations in some locally developed social distancing alarms

We will end the webinar with a plenary Q&A session.

Participation is open to all technology enthousiasts who want a better understanding of the working mechanisms behind social distancing alarms. In our Wireless Community, we do not focus on products and their specifications, but on an expert interpretation of the underlying technology itself.
