Pacwoman stands for Power Aware Communications
for Wireless OptiMised personal Area Networks. PACWOMAN is a European Project aiming at developing enabling technologies
for Personal Area Networks. Eight partners, from all over Europe and both
from academic and industrial worlds, form the PACWOMAN consortium. Overview The PACWOMAN project aims at providing the necessary tools to design a low cost and secure wireless (Ipv6) personal and access network, as part of the 4G picture. This "toolbox" will consist of physical/MAC layers that enable low-power operation and scalability (mainly in bit rates and in device complexity), advanced networking concepts to optimise the communication load, security concepts that counteracts the "open nature" of wireless communications and a gateway to the external (wireline and wireless) world. The link between all these tools is made by a novel optimisation approach, based on the derivation of Pareto curves (curves linking optimal points) applied to the design of communication nodes and links. This approach enables the design of networks that can be optimised for different goals, aiming at low power operation with guaranteed Quality of Service operation. |
