Carbon nanotubes technology on Si integrated circuits (CARBonCHIP)
The microelectronics industry has adopted carbon nanotube (CNT)-based devices as an important and high potential route for post-CMOS nanoelectronics. CARBonCHIP is a Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP) funded by the European Community that will address the potential of integrated CNT technology. Through an interdisciplinary approach, comprising collaborating researchers from universities, research centers and industrial partners, CARBonCHIP will investigate catalysis, growth, and integration of CNTs on-chip while considering up-scalability and compatibility and taking advantage of existing electrical functions and/or patterns on Si. This work will be complemented by the development of methodologies for analysis of CNTs. The research results of CARBonCHIP will form the baseline for technological assessment of CNTs and provide realistic routes for CNTs technology development. The ultimate goal is to produce a roadmap where CNT on Si integrated circuits will extend Moore ’s Law towards the year 2020 and beyond.
