The main valorisation focus of the OptiMMA project is in respect with the Middleware design technology developed by IMEC, UGent, UAntwerpen, VUB and KUL. This page descripes the dissemination strategy and the economic and/or social utilization potential in Flanders

  • User Group of OptiMMA project

The economic actors in Flanders, which can absorb the research products of the OptiMMA project, are numerous. They are comprised of both SMEs and big companies. What they all have in common, is that their products and services are related to the domain of Embedded Systems.

At the project initiation, 15 companies have been contacted and agreed to participate in the OptiMMA User group: Alcatel-Lucent, Barco Silex, CoWare, DSP Valley, Easics, Essensium, Exys, ICOS, Lysitech, NXP, Mind Embedded Development, Philips Tass, OneAccess/Telindus, Thomson Silicon Components and Traficon.

  • Competitive advantages of Flemish companies with OptiMMA design technology

The advantages and expected results of the OptiMMA design technology to the Flemish companies are:

1.  Reduction of design metrics, including memory footprint, memory bandwidth requirements, energy and power consumption of the embedded software applications. The above metrics will be improved while still meeting all the real-time specifications.

àThe result will be stability, lower cost and increased mobility factor of the products.

2.  Development of controllable and measurable trade-offs based on multi-objective cost functions. The trade-offs will enable the right positioning of the product within the search space (namely number of accesses versus memory footprint, energy overhead versus execution time etc.).

àThe result will be an added value of product customization at design-time and run-time according to the market and user needs respectively.

3.  Reduction of design effort by systematic methodologies supported by design automation assistance.

àThe results will be reduced design-time and shorter time to market of embedded software products.

4.  Cost-efficient mapping of ambitious future applications, which were not available to the public until now, due to their huge resource requirements.

àThe result will be novel services, which will enhance the competitiveness of Flemish industries in leading technologies.

  • The OptiMMA partners aim:

-To standardize the Metadata format and the Metadata interfaces (APIs)

-To patent the Middleware components that will be produced in the OptiMMA project

Also, the OptiMMA partners will consider (on a per case basis) to open source implementations of specific Middleware components or APIs, in order to promote the wider usage and bigger penetration of the Middleware design technology.

  • Other dissemination activities include:

•         Dissemination in Flanders through DSP Valley

•         Four workshops (2 public, 2 for User group)

•         Integration of results in Curriculum (Universities) and Industrial Training (Imec)

•         Publications and communication like brochures, posters, press releases, conference papers, journal papers, etc.

•         Presentations at conferences, workshops, seminars and demonstrations

More information on the dissemination approach will available at the Public workshops and Usergroup meetings
